In the three years since its inception, Elite Refuse Ltd has already made a name for itself within the refuse vehicle hire and sales industry. Offering fresh approach to refuse solutions that combines specialist knowledge with the latest tools and technology, it delivers a bespoke and outstanding customer service. Founded in 2022 by seasoned expert Mauricio Smelt, the growing company now oversees an expanding fleet of more than 30 Dennis Eagle refuse collection vehicles (RCVs).

Built upon the solid foundations of its Managing Director, Maui’s considerable experience across the industry, Elite Refuse Ltd offers spot, short-term, and long-term rental RCV hire, a wide selection of high-quality ‘pre-loved’ RCVs for sale, and exceptional support and maintenance services. With strong ambitions for growth, both across its team of highly trained technicians and the company’s ever-increasing fleet, Elite Refuse Ltd has a substantial array of capabilities despite its modest size.

Based just outside of Retford, Elite Refuse Ltd’s acre-sized facility consists of three large, immaculate workshops, providing an impressive setting for its broad range of maintenance services, from a second-to-none refurbishment offering to essential pre-MOT and LOLER inspections. High-specification Totalkare lifts and precision testing equipment are primed to ensure all RCVs are given the utmost level of care from the moment they arrive onsite, and a wash bay and steam clean facility ensures they leave in pristine condition.

A new, state-of-the-art office section was recently erected to house a canteen, lockers, and multiple offices for the team to use. What’s more, the business’ extensive parts department also pairs its municipal customers with new, used, and refurbished approved parts to suit their unique requirements. These are all carefully inspected and tested prior to purchase, giving customers peace of mind that their parts remain compliant and keep working as they should. If there is something Elite Refuse Ltd is not able to offer, it works collaboratively with its partners and industry peers to provide the perfect solution.

“Honesty, reliability, and unrivalled customer service are what drives us at Elite Refuse,” Maui explained. “We believe in taking a different approach to refuse services that prioritise the customer experience and inspire positive change for the environment. We’re a trusted partner our customers can depend on, not only to deliver the best RCVs available on the market today, but to take care of their vehicles while they focus on what matters most – their business.”

What’s more, as outsourcing fleet maintenance continues to gain popularity among customers, an Elite Refuse Ltd resident engineer is now assigned to manage a specific pool of their vehicles, offering customers a dedicated expert and safe pair of hands.

Keeping Elite trucks on trend

With an eye on the future, Maui is committed to seeing his RCV fleet increase and diversify. This currently consists of 7.5 to 26-tonne Dennis Eagle vehicles, with 4x2, 6x2, and 6x4 axle configurations available, as well as split or trade Terberg bin lift options. “We have a fantastic working relationship with Dennis Eagle,” said Maui. “I’ve been working with them since the very start of my 20-year career in the industry, so implicitly trust their products and their people. We regularly place parts orders with Dennis Eagle and the support we receive from their technicians is always very good. I visit their Warwick facility as often as I can to see our trucks come to life in person.”

To build on this momentum, Maui is now exploring opportunities to introduce new food waste vehicles in line with the industry’s climbing demand following Simpler Recycling legislation. “Food waste is definitely the biggest area of growth and will be the largest challenge for the municipal councils we serve this year,” he said.

Mindful of the importance and imminence of electric vehicles, he is also in the process of reviewing how the fleet could accommodate electric RCVs, adding to the company’s existing solutions that contribute to more sustainable, eco-friendly practices.

“We’re investing in the future of our business and our customers’ success by ensuring our fleet evolves at the pace of our industry and reflects its trends,” said Maui. “I’d love our team to grow alongside this, seeing highly experienced engineers as passionate about refuse trucks as we are join our ranks to help build our presence across the UK. What we do is very much a team effort, so it’s essential we have the right expertise onboard.”

Elite Refuse Ltd’s investments extend beyond its own business and into the wider community. A big advocate for social value and supporting local causes, the hire specialist seeks opportunities for regional sponsorships, including its local youth football team, Redhouse Youth FC.

Delivering excellence, always

Dedicated to providing the highest quality refuse solutions for its customers’ waste management and recycling needs, Elite Refuse Ltd is committed to streamlining operations, minimising fleet downtime, and always driving excellence. Big changes are coming to the business in 2026, so Maui says to watch this space. “We always go the extra mile for our customers and will be building on our efforts even further in 2026,” he added.

“We’re proud to be supporting Elite Refuse Ltd’s journey to even greater growth,” said Adam Robins, General Sales Manager, Dennis Eagle. “Maui and the team are a pleasure to work with and are clearly incredibly passionate about what they do. We’re excited to help drive their next chapter forward and continue to enhance the exceptional service they deliver.”
