SUSTAINABILITY

OUR SUSTAINABILITY

We care about a sustainable future, and are targeting carbon neutrality by 2035 and net zero emissions by 2050 in line with UK government goals. Carbon neutrality will be achieved by balancing our emissions through capture or offset programmes, while net zero will be achieved by transitioning to 100%renewable energy sources and phasing out the use of fossil fuels.

  • We continuously reduce waste and emissions across all operations, from sourcing and manufacturing to delivery.
  • We offset any remaining emissions through certified UK-based schemes.
  • We collaborate with stakeholders to help foster a sustainable environment for the communities we serve.

Below, you can learn about how we are tackling the ongoing challenges of climate change, air pollution, our supply chain emissions and the costs of switching

THE ROAD SO FAR TO NET ZERO

2020

  • Embraced the Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) framework, demonstrating our early commitment to environmental responsibility.
  • Launched our first electronic refuse collection vehicle, the eCollect eRCV, taking our waste management solutions to the next level.
  • Initiated our stillaging project to source bespoke stillaging for piece parts. This initiative aimed to minimise the consumption of wood, plastic, paper and cardboard throughout our production process.
  • Introduced enhanced waste collection methods in our factory environment, enabling more effective identification and segregation of waste streams for recycling

2021

  • Continued the introduction of stillages for parts supply in our DEW processes, further reducing wood and packaging waste.
  • Installed a new roof, insulation and skylights in Unit 1. The increased natural light has reduced our lighting demand.
  • Created new energy-efficient burners in the Beta 2 paint shop in Unit 1.
  • Placed timers on the compressors in Unit 3, limiting their usage to periods of high demand.
  • Introduced new control panels and timers for the extraction systems in the Fabrication and Paint departments, minimising energy waste.
  • Added an energy-efficient boiler in the paint shop mixing room (Blackpool).

2022

  • Continued to expand our stillage programme for parts supply, with ongoing implementation in DEW and a new project commencing in DEB, further reducing wood and packaging waste across our sites.
  • Installed a new transformer and low-voltage board to expand EV charging units for company cars.
  • Launched the second iteration of the eCollect for customers in the UK and Ireland.
  • Introduced standardised waste streams and collection methods within all UK-based service centres, ensuring better waste segregation and aligning with the waste streams already established in our manufacturing plant.

2023

  • Continued to demonstrate our commitment to environmental accountability through our fourth year of SECR reporting, now encompassing Scope 3 emissions in addition to the legislative Scope 1 and 2 categories.
  • Achieved PPN 06/21 accreditation, further solidifying our commitment to sustainable processes.
  • Released our comprehensive Carbon Balance Sheet, incorporating data collection across all three emission scopes.
  • Continued to expand our stillage programme, with ongoing implementation in both DEW and DEB, significantly reducing wood and packaging waste.
  • Developed a four-year plan for Phase Three of the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS).

2024

  • Launched our Carbon Net Zero Strategy Plan, outlining our ambitious goals and comprehensive roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality.
  • Continued the implementation of our stillage programme in DEW and DEB, yielding significant reductions in wood and packaging waste.
  • Sourced renewable electricity for approximately 90% of all UK sites.
